Conservative Sicilian electorate vote V for Vendetta.

Today in Sicily a completely new political movement won landslide votes making it the most popular party in the regional elections. The party is called the 5 Star Movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Star_Movement). This is big news for Italy, Europe AND the western world because the party program does not defend capitalist ideals, at all costs, like the rest of mainstream politics. Instead they want to find sustainable solutions to our problems. They are bringing “alternative” views into the mainstream. It is time to question our system. In a world of limited resources how is growth in production and consumption the answer? It makes no sense and is bankrupting our world economically, ecologically and morally. Sicily I envy you. You are our future. Our political renaissance. You now need to wait for the rest of the western world to catch up!

The 5 Star Movement was set up by an popular comedian Beppe Grillo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beppe_Grillo ) who has not been on Italian TV for 25 years. He was banned by mainstream media because he dared to criticise the parties in power at the time (shortly later the government was dissolved as a result of the corruption and embezzlement he highlighted). Despite having no exposure he built up a following via his blog (http://www.beppegrillo.it/en/) and through his shows in which he attacks the big corporates, the current financial system and the politicians that profit from the status quo.  Time magazine chose Beppe as one of the "European Heroes 2005" due to his role in exposing the Parmalat scandal in Italy.
